Mystery Aussie Lotto Winner Claims $55 Million Jackpot

A mystery lottery winner from Australia waited more than 170 days to claim an incredible $55 million jackpot, but the prize only took a few hours to reach their bank account.

An Australian lottery player waited almost six months to claim a massive $55 million Powerball jackpot. The winner has chosen to stay completely anonymous, not revealing their age, gender or even where they bought the winning ticket.

Because the player was unregistered, the National Lottery had no way of contacting them, leading to a long search from the date of the initial draw until recently.

The jackpot was claimed with only days before being sent to the Victoria's State Revenue Office for safekeeping after which it would go toward funding charities around the Melbourne area. Until it was claimed, it was the largest unclaimed lottery jackpot in Australian lottery history.

"Exactly who the winner is, where they’ve been and what they plan to do with their multi-million-dollar payday will forever remain a mystery as they have chosen to remain completely anonymous and celebrate in private," said Matt Hart an Australian lottery spokesperson.
