A $55 million winning Powerball ticket was sold in Australia last week, but one question still remains: just who is the lucky winner?
It has been a little over a week since an Australian lotto spokesperson declared that a $55 million winning Powerball ticket had been sold. Since then nobody has come forward to claim the prize and now more information has been released; the winning ticket was sold at a shop in Brunswick, a suburb in Melbourne.
It was also confirmed that the winner is not a registered lotto player, so lotto officials are unable to contact the winner directly.
It is highly unusual for such a big prize to go unclaimed for so long; “Our experience is for large draws, winners check their tickets as soon as they can to discover if their $55 million dreams have come true,” said a lotto spokesperson.
Although the winning draw occurred this year, the $55 million jackpot was the biggest Powerball windfall of 2017.
